Although the Brecknock Society and Museum Friends works closely with our colleagues in Powys Archives and the National Library of Wales, we also create and publish our own work on the history and culture of the historic county of Brecknock.Every March, we launch our Society journal, Brycheiniog, which is now in its 50th volume, having started with Volume 1 in 1955. The Editor welcomes articles and shorter notes and queries from distinguished academics, independent researchers, and local enthusiasts on a wide range of subjects relating to the archaeology, history, geology, natural history, arts, and literature within the county. For those who have not written before but have significant ideas to share, this is a perfect place to start.
We also publish occasional books, usually as joint projects with local publishers or national societies. Above Brecknock, has a series of stunning photographs taken from the air of the sites, towns, and villages of Brecknock and Henry Vaughan and the Usk Valley was co-edited by one of our Society members. To widen our scope, the Brecknock Society and Museum Friends sits on the Brecknock History Forum, a group bringing all the local history societies in Brecknock together, and we promote their email magazine HANES. We also publish our own Chair’s Newsletter, which provides updates and news between the publication dates of Brycheiniog. Both HANES and the Chair’s Newsletters can be found on the site.
