With the current pandemic restrictions, it is not possible to hold the normal April memorial event at Llansantffraed Church. In honour of the 400th anniversary of the birth of the Vaughan twins in 1621 – Henry, the poet and physician, and Thomas, the priest and alchemical philosopher – The Vaughan Association is hosting an on-line celebration via Zoom on Sunday 25th April 2021, from 4.00 – 6.00pm BST (3.00 – 5.00pm GMT).
Click here for a 2-page PDF with details of the on-line celebration and how to register for it. You’ll find the programme on page 2. This includes talks on the Vaughan Garden at Talybont-on-Usk and on the public poetry associated with Henry Vaughan at y Gaer, Brecon. It will conclude with a short video of the annual wreath-laying by the Brecknock Society at the grave of Henry Vaughan in Llansantffraed churchyard.
Separately, BBC Radio Wales will broadcast a 30-minute programme titled ‘Henry Vaughan @ 400’ about the life and work of Henry Vaughan on All Things Considered on Sunday 18th April at 9.00am BST. This will be available subsequently as a podcast on BBC Sounds.
And in y Gaer Brecon, an exhibition of books, objects and artwork associated with Henry Vaughan will be on display from late April as it reopens. For more details, see the y Gaer website – click here.
