The 23rd Sir John Lloyd Memorial Lecture April 23rd 2021

The 23rd Sir John Lloyd Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Professor Janet Burton of Trinity Saint David, University of Wales, and that her subject will be ‘The monastic presence in medieval Brecknock’.

Professor Burton is very well-known both as an authority on her subject and as an excellent speaker. She has provided the following synopsis: ‘Monastic houses were an integral and valued part of medieval society, both to those who took vows to lead a cloistered life and to those who provided material support to enable them to do so. This lecture will examine aspects of the history of those monasteries that were located within medieval Brecknock and the activities of others, which lay outside its bounds but nevertheless left their imprint on the landscape’.

The lecture will be delivered virtually from Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon at 7.30 pm on Friday 23 April 2021 (and will be accessible for a short period thereafter). The lecture is free to attend and, to get joining details, you will need to visit the ‘What’s on’ page of the Theatr website at www.brycheiniog.co.uk.

Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon’s Centre for the Arts opened in April 1997, as the first wholly-funded Lottery new build arts organisation in the UK. The Arts Centre is probably situated in one of the most picturesque locations of any venue in the UK. Built alongside the canal basin in the heart of Brecon, serving the town and surrounding areas of Powys, Monmouthshire and beyond, it is rooted firmly in the community it serves.
